Terms of Use & Disclaimer
By using Terrainly, you agree to these terms. They are short, and the most important part is the disclaimer below.
Disclaimer: Terrainly is a visualization tool. It is not a survey, engineering, navigation or safety tool. Do not rely on it for construction, legal boundaries, flood or hazard assessment, volume or cost calculations, or any decision where an error could cause harm or financial loss. Always use qualified professionals and verified data for those purposes.
The service
Terrainly lets you view elevation rasters (such as GeoTIFF DEMs) on a map, in your browser. It is provided free of charge and may change, be interrupted or be withdrawn at any time.
Accuracy of what you see
- Elevations shown are taken from your file. We do not verify them.
- Large files may be shown as a reduced-resolution preview in which each displayed value is an average of several cells.
- Rendering involves choices such as color scales, shading, reprojection and resampling. The image is an interpretation of your data, not the data itself.
- Positions on the map depend on the coordinate system recorded in your file and on approximations (for example, differences of a metre or two between some datums are ignored for display).
No warranty
The service is provided “as is” and “as available”, without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy, reliability and non-infringement.
Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, the operator of Terrainly is not liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive damages, or for any loss of data, profits or business, arising from your use of, or inability to use, the service. Where liability cannot be excluded, it is limited to the maximum extent the law allows. Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot lawfully be limited.
Your data
You keep all rights to your files. They are processed only in your browser and are not sent to us. You are responsible for having the right to use any data you open. See the privacy policy.
Acceptable use
Don’t misuse the service: no attempts to disrupt it, overload it with automated requests, or use it to break the law. Don’t represent images exported from the viewer as certified survey products.
Third-party data and software
The map uses OpenStreetMap data (© OpenStreetMap contributors, ODbL) served as basemap tiles by CARTO (© CARTO). The sample terrain contains information licensed under the Open Government Licence – Canada. The site uses open-source software; see the credits. Any datasets you open are governed by their own licences.
Changes
We may update these terms. The current version is always on this page, with its effective date. Continued use after a change means you accept it.
